Tourism in Tignes

Tignes
is a unique, multicultural, dynamic and above all, sporting resort that
offers you a great mountain experience. Whether you’re an avid
skier or snowboarder, or you’re looking for a natural setting for a
family holiday, or you like to party into the early hours - Tignes
has something for everyone! Since 1936 a unique ski lift has been
built in Tignes to bring skiing beginners to the top of the slopes.
The construction of the dam in 1952 drowned the old village under
water, and the resort was rebuilt higher up, at 2,100 metres above
sea level. In the 1970s, the resort began to develop and upgrade its
ski and tourist facilities to become the resort it is today.

Tignes
has become a dynamic and popular sporting resort, while keeping its
authenticity. The 5 villages of the resort offer visitors different
settings, each one as attractive as the other. Tignes 1800 is a
replica of the original village, with its traditional chalets located
around the church. Le Lavachet is a little more remote but offers
peace and quiet. Tignes le Lac is more commercial, with many shops,
bars and restaurants, while down below, Les Brevieres offers a place
to retreat after sport, away from the bustle of the resort. Finally,
Tignes Val Claret is “the place to be” if you want to enjoy the
resort’s nightlife.
